Pupils across Surrey have benefitted from more than 6,000 laptops and tablets to date, as the government hits an important milestone in its roll-out of devices to support disadvantaged young people.
A total of 6,124 devices have been delivered across the county to help support online education for children and young people.
Mary Lewis, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families said: “I’m really pleased we’ve been able to assist so many of our disadvantaged young people during this very challenging time.
“Having access to these laptops means these young people can still access materials and services that otherwise would have been lost to them. To see their happiness at receiving these laptops was truly heart-warming."
More than 1 million devices have now been delivered to schools and local authorities across England as part of a £400million investment that will support schools and young people for years to come.
The news comes after the Department for Education last month announced a further 300,000 laptops and tablets to help more disadvantaged children and young people learn at home.
