Recent Ofsted inspections have shown that more than 80% of Surrey’s state schools are outstanding or good, after 313 of Surrey County Council’s primary and secondary schools were given the two best grades.

100 schools were judged outstanding and another 213 were rated good. The county council is responsible for 384 schools.

Linda Kemeny, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Schools and Learning, said: “These figures reinforce the fact that Surrey has some of the best state schools in the country.

“These figures reinforce the fact that Surrey has some of the best state schools in the country. But we also know there are Surrey schools that can perform better and we are doing everything possible to make sure they match up to the 80% or more that are already outstanding or good.

“Over the next five years we are investing almost £330 million to provide the 13,000 extra primary and secondary places the county needs.

“Despite the pressure this increasing demand is putting on our resources I have no doubt we can continue to provide our children with the best possible start in life.”
