Plans have been unveiled for affordable extra care housing on the site of a former day centre in Banstead.

The county council is seeking outline planning permission for a development which will enable older people to live independently for longer in their local community.

Around 50 one and two-bedroom flats would be provided on the site of the former Bentley day centre on the Horseshoe, with care and support on hand for residents if needed.

The county council is committed to providing 725 affordable new homes in extra care housing schemes by 2030. As well as the Banstead site, other locations around the county are being considered.

The county council is inviting feedback from the local community ahead of applying for outline planning approval.

Further details of the proposed scheme and community engagement are available here. The survey will be open until the end of Thursday 24 November, with online Q&A drop-in events being held on November 15th and November 17th.

Mark Nuti, Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, said: “Extra care housing enables older people to enjoy privacy, independence and the social benefits of communal spaces which welcome not only residents and their visitors, but also the wider local community.

“We’re pleased to be bringing forward these plans as we work towards our Community Vision for 2030 which prioritises people leading active and fulfilling lives and receiving the social care support they need at the right time and in the right place.”
