New tool to understand your carbon footprint

Surrey County Council has launched a new tool to help residents understand their carbon footprint and how to reduce it.

The online, interactive tool shows the breakdown of an average Surrey resident’s carbon footprint into four categories – travel, home, food and consumer goods. Each section includes an explanation of how we generate carbon, for example from car emissions or from heating our homes. To help residents make changes in their day to day lives, there are also plenty of useful tips and resources on how we can all reduce our environmental impact.

Following the launch of their climate change strategy in April this year, the tool also tells you more about what the council is doing to address climate change in Surrey and the actions they have committed to. The tool will be regularly updated with details of new projects and progress as the actions from the climate change strategy are delivered.

Natalie Bramhall, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change, said “To achieve our goal of being carbon neutral by 2050 we all need to make changes. This online tool is a great way for residents to learn about the impact they have on the world around them, and what they can do about it. It also explains what we, as a council, are doing to support residents and the changes we’re making to make our net zero carbon goal a reality.”
